Karen Mars

Karen always offers me support in all my activities regardless of how sane she thinks they are.I'm not sure where this web site fits in her sanity scale. Anyway, thanks, Karen. She is a United Methodist minister and is the pastor of UMC congregations in Grand Marais, Germfask and McMillan. This involves a circuit of 92 milesand three services each Sunday morning. During the winter she leaves home in the dark before the only highway into Grand Marais is plowed.

Jose Gutierrez

Jose, Millie and their 5 children are from San Jose, Costa Rica. They have been in Grand Marais for almost a year and will shortly be returning home. The adventure here was to have the children attend school and learn english. They are very active in the community and the church. Everyone they have met considers them family. Jose has created web sites for 7 churches and God'sCountry Cooperative Parish. He has also taken on the responsibility of trying to teach me how to develop web pages and and creating video presentations. He said that this is one of the toughest tasks he has had in the UP. The Gutierrez have freely given themselves to the community and they will be sorely missed when they rerurn home to Costa Rica.
